About

The Taūla Clinic

Throughout life each of us will experience situations that challenge us, and most of the time we will work through these challenges on our own and continue on in life without too much hassle.  At other times, some challenges will leave us feeling confused, unsettled, overwhelmed or stuck.  Counselling therapy  at the Taūla Clinic offers therapeutic services that can support you through life's challenges, changes and uncertainties.

At the Taūla Clinic, your therapist will collaborate with you (at your pace) to identify your therapeutic needs and goals and discuss how therapy may be helpful for you.   The role of your therapist is primarily as a professional listener and a collaborator alongside your journey. Guided by your goals, our therapists will provide therapeutic rapport, skills and techniques to support you to meet your identified needs.

Our name Taūla means anchor and is derived from Vagahau Niue, the language of Polynesian people from the Island of Niue in the South Pacific.  The Taūla Clinic aims to provide a safe space (harbor) where you can metaphorically anchor down during challenging times.   In therapeutic work, an anchor will also represent the knowledge, actions and values that you engage to hold steady in unsettling situations or uncertain times.  In collaboration with your trained therapist, your identified anchors are explored to understand, guide and strengthen your ability to cope when faced with challenges, by promoting awareness, choice, calm and clarity.

Our areas of interest include:

  • Anxiety & Depression

  • Stress and burnout

  • Trauma recovery - including ACC funded therapy

  • Health and Disability focused behavioral support

  • Youth Health and well-being

  • Domestic Violence

  • Parenting and family concerns

  • Foster parenting

  • Neurodiversity

  • Understanding and managing challenging behaviors

  • Workforce development training

  • Workplace challenges

  • Career and study issues

  • Difficulties related to cross-cultural contexts

  • Cultural Supervision

Introducing

Fakaalofa lahi atu, Malo e lelei, Talofa lava, Ni Sa Bula Vinaka, Kia Orana, Taloha ni,

Fakatalofa, Ia orana, Halo Olaketa,  Noa’ia ‘e Mauri,  Aloha & Warm Pacific Greetings.

Thank you for being here.  It is my absolute pleasure and privilege to lead the Taūla Clinic.

As a therapist, I offer a collaborative, strengths-based approach that incorporates a range of therapeutic modalities and core principles.  My approach is person-centered, trauma-informed and holistic, and can include therapeutic approaches such as Narrative Therapy, Brief Solutions Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy,  and an Acceptance and Commitment approach.  This means that in therapy, I work collaboratively with my clients, using specific therapeutic techniques, to find workable solutions that meet their needs and goals.  As your Therapist, I will collaborate with you on your journey, in a way that is healing and meaningful.

A little bit about me, I am mostly of Niue descent, with ancestry linked to Fiji, Samoa and Ireland.  I am married to Augustine and we are blessed with 3 sons. I was born and raised in New Zealand, and have also lived on Niue Island and in the Fiji Islands.  I attained my qualifications from both overseas and New Zealand, with my most recent postgraduate degrees earned from the University of Auckland and Massey University.  My work experience includes roles within the Health and Disability sectors, Education, Youth Services, and Workforce development within Government and Non-Government Organizations.  Alongside the Taūla Clinic, I provide Clinical advice for a Pacific-focused disability advocacy service and also hold a psychologist role with a specialist education provider located in Auckland.

As a practitioner, I am guided by my key values of empathy, authenticity, partnership, respect and values-based living.   My approach is to build strong therapeutic relationships and create a non-judgmental, safe space for trust, openness and reflection as I believe these are the core conditions for effective therapeutic service whether in individual therapy or organizational settings.  My work, alongside my network of therapists, is to honor your journey, and support you to achieve your goals.

I look forward to hearing from you.
